Chase Utley up for national Heart and Hustle Award for seventh time
By Cary Osborne
The other 29 Major Leaguers/team winners nominated for the national 2016 Heart and Hustle Award, presented by the MLB Players Alumni Association, have to look at the other nominee — Chase Utley — as a favorite.
Here’s the description of the award:
The award is presented annually to an active player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.
Sound like Utley?
The award was first handed out in 2005 and Utley has now been his team’s winner/national nominee seven times — 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The six previous nominations were as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Utley, who’s had a productive 2016 on the field and has been invaluable to the Dodgers on and off it with his leadership and hustle, has never won the national award.
A Dodger has never been the national winner.
Fans, Major League alumni and active players will vote to select the final winner from the 30 team winners.
