Not only has Rob Segedin has been called up to the Dodgers, he is making his Major League debut tonight in left field against Boston lefty David Price.

To make room for Segedin on the 25-man roster, Chris Taylor has been optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Trayce Thompson has been shifted to the 60-day disabled list.

The 27-year-old Segedin has been pounding the ball all year — first when we learned all about him during Spring Training, and then with Oklahoma City, for whom he has a .392 on-base percentage, .598 slugging percentage, 23 doubles, nine triples and 21 home runs.

Segedin has played mostly first and third base this season and in his pro career, but he has does have 75 games in left field and 66 in right.

He will be the 49th player this year for the Dodgers, who set a franchise record in 2015 by using 55. Over the past two seasons, there have been 78.

Taylor has a .288 OBP and .417 slugging percentage in 52 plate appearances for Los Angeles.

Thompson, whose time on the disabled list officially dates back to July 10, is no closer to a return, as Jack Baer reported for MLB.com.

Thompson had his return moved back to September, but it wasn’t due to an aggravation or reinjury of his back. Even though the outfielder was expected to start a rehab assignment this week, his progress had recently slowed enough to prompt the Dodgers to reexamine his back.

“He was doing the baseball activity and really wasn’t responding,” (Dave) Roberts said. “Symptomatically, didn’t feel great. So we did a little more imaging and I don’t know the exact diagnosis, but there was some stuff prior that we wanted to calm down.”

The Dodgers are currently trying to stabilize the outfielder’s back and core, with any baseball activity being severely limited.

Roberts also told reporters today that reliever Yimi Garcia (biceps) had another setback and isn’t expected to return to action this season.
