Great Lakes now in win-or-go-home situation
By Cary Osborne
The only sub-.500 team in this year’s Midwest League playoffs will have to find a little more magic on Tuesday.
The Great Lakes Loons, the Dodgers’ Low-A partner, lost 5-3 to West Michigan (Detroit Tigers) tonight and will play a winner-take-all Game 3 for a spot in the Midwest League Championship Series.
In 10 seasons, the Loons have never appeared in the MLCS.
West Michigan took a 5-1 lead after two innings, but the Loons got two back in the top of the third with RBI singles from Brendon Davis and Ibandel Isabel. However, Great Lakes had only one threat the rest of the way, getting runners on first and second with two out in the eighth, before West Michigan got out of the inning.
