Out of action since May 30, Alex Wood has been activated from the disabled list by the Dodgers.

Wood originally went on the 15-day disabled list with left posterior elbow soreness May 31. Four weeks later, he moved to the 60-day DL. On July 20, the Dodgers announced he would have an arthroscopic debridement of his left elbow, and expected him to be out for eight more weeks — which brings us to today.

In his final six starts before going on the DL, Wood had a 2.80 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings. For the year, his ERA is 3.99 with 62 strikeouts in 50 1/3 innings.

Believe it or not, Wood is still sixth on the 2016 Dodgers in games started and ninth in innings and strikeouts.

To make room for Wood on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers have designated Bud Norris for assignment. Norris threw six shutout innings against the Rockies in his Dodger debut July 1 — at a time Los Angeles was desperate for starting pitching — but has had a 7.61 ERA in 36 2/3 innings since, allowing 66 baserunners (eight homers).

Wow, didn’t see the Norris DFA coming.

The Norris DFA makes sense only if there is still hope for Kazmir, Anderson, or McCarthy to get healthy before the playoffs. They must think at least one of them can make it back in time to grab that 4th rotation spot (unless they want to give it to DeLeon) because I thought moving one of those three to the 60 day DL was the other option to make room for Wood.

And if Norris wasn’t in the long term plans then he was going to be DFA’d after the season anyway. No need to prolong the inevitable. I would have been very concerned if he was in their playoff roster plans. He has been terrible.

Agree again, I would have thought one of those 3, would go to 60 man, or Chris Taylor would be DFA (since he didn’t get called up). As bad as Norris has been, in case there was a blow out, you could use him. No way should he have been a contender for a playoff roster spot however.
