When Baseball America revealed its list of the top 100 prospects of the game on Thursday, three Dodgers ranked in the top 10. Shortstop Corey Seager was at No. 5, center fielder Joc Pederson took No. 8 and left-handed pitcher Julio Urias was at 10 (2014 first-round pick and right-handed pitcher Grant Holmes was at No. 74). This marked the first time in the 25 years that Baseball America has done a Top 100 Prospects list that the Dodgers had three of their own in the top 10.

Baseball America listed the entire history of its top 100 prospects, which gives us the opportunity to reflect. Here are some interesting notes that pop out:

The most prospects in the top 100

The Dodgers had nine in the 2006 top 100, and every single one played in the Major Leagues for the Dodgers.

7. Chad Billingsley – RHP

19. Andy LaRoche – 3B

26. Joel Guzman – SS/3B

42. Russell Martin – C

55. Scott Elbert – LHP

63. Jonathan Broxton – RHP

82. Blake DeWitt – 3B

89. Andre Ethier – OF

96. Matt Kemp – OF

Honorable mention

The Dodgers had eight players in the 1991 top 100:

4. Jose Offerman – SS

14. Raul Mondesi – OF

29. Henry Rodriguez – OF

40. Jamie McAndrew -RHP

43. Kiki Jones – RHP

71. Dan Opperman – RHP

74. Tom Goodwin – OF

94. Eric Karros – OF

The least prospects in the top 100

That’s a tie. In 1999, catcher Angel Peña was the only Dodger in the top 100 and he ranked No. 41. In 2001, outfielder Chin-Feng Chen, the first Taiwanese-born player to play in the big leagues, was the only one and ranked No. 86. Pena had 187 at-bats in his Major League career, all with the Dodgers, and Chen had 22, also all with the Dodgers.

The highest-rated prospect

In 1998, first baseman/third baseman Paul Konerko was ranked No. 2 overall. That same year, Raul Mondesi was ranked No. 3. The pair combined to hit 710 home runs in their Major League careers. On a side note, Mondesi’s son, Kansas City shortstop prospect Raul A. Mondesi, is ranked No. 28 in this year’s top 100.

The highest-rated Dodger prospect to never make it

In 1990, right-hander Kiki Jones was the No. 6 overall prospect. He was the 15th overall selection in the 1989 First-Year Player Draft out of Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Fla. — the same school that produced Gary Sheffield and Dwight Gooden. Jones pitched five years in the Dodger system and never surpassed Double-A.

The best of times

From 1994 to 1996, the Dodgers had six prospects in each top 100 list. Some of the names were Chan Ho Park, Konerko, Todd Hollandsworth, Darren Dreifort and Mondesi.
